Assam Police have launched a citizen-led financial cyber fraud reporting and management system with a 24-hour hotline to help combat financial cyber fraud.
âMany citizens lose money due to cyber financial fraud, but by the time the police receive the information, it becomes late to block the amount because the fraudulent money is already reaching the fraudsters. In view of the above constraint, a 24 hour helpline has been set up with hotline number 155260 at the Criminal Investigation Department, âsaid an official statement released here.
Victims of financial cyber fraud can call the helpline with all the relevant details. Subsequently, the CID helpdesk operator will immediately upload the details of the âCitizen Financial Cyber ââFraud Reporting and Management Systemâ.
The affected banks / wallets / traders, which are also part of the portal, will receive the information after entering the details by the operator. If the money has not left the system, it is blocked by the bank / financial intermediary concerned.
An automatic message would be generated and sent to the complainant to file a formal complaint on www.cybercrime.gov.in within 24 hours.
Assam Police Director General Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta also launched a cybercrime lab training center at CID headquarters on Monday, as well as the Citizen Financial Cyber ââFraud Reporting and Management System.
The laboratory is part of the (program for the prevention of cybercrime against women and children of the Ministry of the Interior).
Set up at a cost of Rs 3.92 crore, the state-of-the-art laboratory and training center will ensure the proper collection and preservation of digital evidence related to cybercrime and its in-depth analysis in accordance with the provisions of relevant laws. .
In addition, cybercrime first responder kits have been distributed to 245 police stations in Assam, where a high number of cybercrime cases are reported.
