MONDAY UPDATES: Cole County reports 50 new cases of coronavirus



The Cole County Department of Health reported 50 new cases of coronavirus over the weekend.

According to the dashboard update, there are 11,420 residential cases and 286 long-term care facility cases. This represents a total of 11,706 cases in the county.

Cole County has reported 165 coronavirus deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Cole County ranks 18th in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per 100,000 over the past week. Cases are down 15.7% compared to last week to the week before. The county reported an 8.1% positivity test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Elderly Services.

The Missouri Coronavirus Vaccine Dashboard reports that about 51.2% of the county started their first dose of the vaccine and 46.9% of the county’s population were fully vaccinated.

The Jefferson City School District did not report any new cases of coronavirus among students or staff over the weekend.

The district reports seven active cases among students and no active cases among staff.

The district reports 56 close contacts for students and two close contacts for staff.

New COVID-19 cases in Missouri below daily averages

The Missouri Department of Health and Seniors’ Services reported on Monday that new cases of COVID-19 were below daily averages.

According to state health service, 567 people have tested positive for the virus using PCR tests. That’s below the Missouri daily average of 722 cases for the test method.

Another 99 patients have tested positive for COVID-19 using antigen testing. That’s also lower than the state’s daily average of 227 cases for the testing method.

Missouri’s seven-day positivity rate rose slightly on Monday, from 6.8% on Sunday to 6.9%.

The state health department has not reported any new deaths linked to the virus. At least 12,225 people in Missouri have died from causes related to COVID-19.

DHSS data shows 941 patients are hospitalized with the virus. State hospitals report 134 patients are on ventilators.

More than 3.4 Missourians have started the COVID-19 vaccination process. That’s 55.7% of the state’s population.
